FAQs

Why would I want to zoom in and out on Facebook?

Facebook is one of the world’s most popular social networking sites, used by millions of users around the globe every day. It is available as a website and an app, meaning that you can use it on just about any smart device, from smartphones and tablets to smartwatches and computers.

There is, however, a lot of information presented to you at any one time on Facebook. Scrolling through it can be a strain on the eyes, or even cause headaches. And for those of us with poor eyesight, it’s not always easy to make out the small text, or the details of pictures.

Zooming in and out on Facebook allows you to take in only the amount of information that is comfortable to you at any one time. It also allows you to make out the detail in pictures more clearly. The long and short of it is: adjusting the zoom on Facebook has greater accessibility implications for a wide range of people.

How do I reset the zoom level to default?

The answer to this depends on the method you’re using to zoom. If on a desktop browser, and you’re using the keyboard shortcuts to zoom in and out, then you can quickly and easily reset the zoom level to default (100%) by using the shortcut CTRL/CMD + 0 (ZERO).

If I change the zoom level will it affect Facebook across all my devices?

No. There’s no native way to alter the zoom of Facebook as a site or app, itself. Instead, what you are doing is zooming in and out on your phone or desktop, or browser. As such, the changes you make to the zoom level when using Facebook will not affect your usage of Facebook on any other devices.

In fact, it may not affect your usage of Facebook on this same device, provided you quit the app and then open it back up. (Desktop browser zoom is different, changing the zoom level on any given website will alter that zoom level on the said website until you change it again, regardless of whether you close the tab and reopen it.)

What’s the best way to zoom in and out on Facebook?

The answer to this totally depends on your preferred device for using Facebook. If you prefer to use your smartphone when browsing Facebook, then it might be a good idea to enable the Accessibility zoom options on your phone’s settings. Whereas, if you normally visit the Facebook website on your desktop browser, you can simply use the CTRL/CMD and (+) or (-) keyboard shortcuts to zoom in and out.
