How to Update Minecraft on Windows 10

If you wish to enjoy all the new perks and advantages Minecraft provides, along with a more stable and refined gaming experience, then your game needs to be upgraded regularly. In most cases, this process should happen automatically, when you open Minecraft or when your computer is in standby mode. However, there are times when Minecraft simply won’t upgrade automatically, no matter how hard you try, and you have to resort to updating your game manually.

If this is the case with you as well, here is how you can upgrade your Minecraft game to the newest version while using a Windows 10 device:

Getting the newest Minecraft version on Windows 10

If you currently have the Windows 10 edition of Minecraft on your device, you can upgrade it manually by following the steps below:

  1. Press the Start button on your computer (Windows icon).
  2. Type ‘Microsoft Store’ into the search bar, and open it once it appears in the search results.
  3. Once the Store is opened, click on the three horizontal dots at the top to open the menu. Here, click on Downloads and Updates.
  4. Finally, press the blue Get Updates tab to get all available updates.

Note: Keep in mind that this will prompt the Store to look for and download the newest editions of all applications you currently have on your device, as well as Minecraft. After all of those updates have finished installing, a message saying ‘You’re good to go’ will appear, and you should then have the newest edition of Minecraft on your computer.

What happens if you still can’t upgrade Minecraft?

In case even looking for updates manually doesn’t get you the newest version of Minecraft, it might be a good idea to try uninstalling, and then reinstalling the game on your computer. Here’s how:

  1. Press the Start button (Windows icon) and then load the Settings by pressing the gear icon.
  2. Here, press Apps & Features, and scroll through the list to find Minecraft.
  3. Once found, simply press Uninstall to remove it from your device.
  4. Then, open the Microsoft Store by following the steps above.
  5. Here, type ‘Minecraft for Windows 10’ into the search bar.
  6. Finally, press the Get tab to install the newest version of Minecraft on your device.

Note: No matter what the case, a new installation from scratch always ensures you are getting the newest app or program version.

What happens if you can’t find Minecraft at all?

If you search through the list of downloaded apps in the Microsoft Store, and you can’t even seem to find Minecraft, that most likely means you have a different edition of the game that wasn’t downloaded through this store.

In this instance, consider uninstalling your current edition of Minecraft with the Apps & Features setting. Then, download the correct Minecraft edition again with the Microsoft Store, by following the steps above.

What if an error message keeps appearing?

If an error message telling you that something went wrong keeps appearing as you attempt to update or reinstall Minecraft, it might be due to the system version on your device. Try to update Windows by following these steps.

  1. Press the Start button on your computer (Windows icon).
  2. Type Windows Update settings into the search bar and open the appropriate result.
  3. Once a new window opens, press the Check for Updates tab, and upgrade your OS if any new updates are available.
  4. Finally, try to install Minecraft once again using the methods described above.

Hopefully, one of these methods will allow you to get the newest edition of Minecraft on your Windows 10 device. However, if nothing ends up working, it might be best to contact Minecraft support and ask them to help you resolve your issue.
