How To Tell If Someone Blocked You On Discord

If for whatever reason, you believe you’ve been blocked by someone on Discord, there’s no simple way to find out. Thankfully, however, this doesn’t mean there’s no way to tell. We’ve devised two separate strategies which can quickly and efficiently confirm for you whether your suspicions are correct and whether that person really has blocked you on Discord.

To learn how to tell if someone blocked you on Discord, follow our simple step-by-step instructions. For any additional information, or if you have any other queries, please see our FAQs below.

How to tell if someone blocked you on Discord (method one)

  1. Open up the Discord application on your device and sign into your account if necessary
  2. Navigate onto a shared server which the person you think’s blocked you is also a member of
  3. Locate one of their most recent messages to the server
  4. Next, ‘react’ to the message (hover your cursor over it and then click the smiley emoji ‘react’ icon, and choose any reaction you like)
  5. If your reaction shows up on the message, then you’ve most likely not been blocked. If it does not show up, then you most likely have been blocked.

How to tell if someone blocked you on Discord (method two)

  1. Open up the Discord application on your device and sign into your account if necessary
  2. Navigate to your Direct Messages with the person you think has blocked you (or begin a Direct Message chat by clicking the (+) symbol next to “Direct Messages” in the sidebar on the homescreen)
  3. Attempt to send a message (any message at all) to the person via Direct Messages
  4. If the message is sent without a problem, then you most likely have not been blocked by this person. If, however, you received an automated response from Clyde Bot stating something like “Your message could not be delivered… [because] you were blocked by the recipient” then you most likely have been blocked by this user.

And there you have it! Two pretty straightforward ways to tell whether you have or have not been blocked by someone on Discord.

Frequently asked questions

Why would someone block me on Discord?

Discord is one of the world’s most popular messaging and community conversation platforms, providing users with all of the same messaging features that other platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger do. Moreover, Discord arguably provides an even greater range of features, for which it is beloved by millions.

Unfortunately, there’s no guarantee that you will be able to appease everyone who you come into contact with on Discord (which is just as true for real life!) There may come a point in your Discord experience that you believe someone’s blocked you, and you want to know why. That’s what we’re here to show you how to do.

And why would anyone block you anyway? Well, there’s no perfect way of knowing, and the reasons can be as varied and numerous as the people behind them. Most likely, however, you’ve said something on a server you share with another individual which they have either found insensitive, offensive, distasteful, or slanderous. In such a situation, they may well have blocked you in order to avoid seeing any such messages in the future.

Remember, be courteous, considerate, and compassionate when speaking with others, and you’ll likely never face such a situation!

How can I unblock myself on Discord?

Unfortunately (and fortunately) you can’t. Think about it: it really wouldn’t make sense if the potential offender was able to override the offended person’s actions. As such, there are no direct means of unblocking yourself on Discord.

What you can do is to somehow message the person you think has blocked you on another messaging platform, or speak to them in person (if possible), and kindly request that they unblock you. We’re not saying this will immediately work, but it’s a start.

Alternatively, you can ask someone else (a mutual friend, perhaps) to act as an intermediary, passing messages between you and the person who has blocked you.

What implications does being blocked on Discord carry?

Not necessarily any. If you’re simply blocked by another user, chances are you can continue using Discord without the block having any effect on the rest of your Discord experience.

However, if the user blocked you for an offense they found particularly upsetting, they may well have also ‘reported’ you to the Discord authorities. Said authorities will then review the case and your profile, and decide whether to take any further action against you.

In extreme situations, you may well end up with your Discord account blocked and banned. Be courteous and kind and you’ll likely not have to worry about this ever happening!
