How to Save GIFs from Twitter

Unlike most other websites, you can’t simply right-click and save a GIF when using Twitter. The reason for this is the fact that GIFs are automatically converted to video files when uploaded to a Tweet, preventing you from easily downloading your favorite moving images.

Thankfully, there are still some ways you can download a GIF from Twitter, regardless of the device you’re using, although you will have to go through third-party apps and websites. Here’s how to do just that:

Using an Android device

To save GIFs from Twitter to your Android device, you will first need to download an app that will allow you to do so, such as Tweet2gif. Once you install the app and give it the necessary media permissions, simply follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Twitter, and locate the Tweet containing the GIF you want to download.
  2. Tap the Share icon, and then choose Tweet2gif.
  3. Next, simply press Download GIF. The GIF will now be saved to your Android device.

Using an iOS device

When it comes to iPhones and iPads, GIFwrapped is one of the best apps for downloading GIFs from Twitter. After you’ve installed this app, here’s how to use it:

  1. Go to Twitter, and locate the Tweet containing the GIF you want to download.
  2. Tap the down arrow in the upper-right corner of the Tweet.
  3. Here, choose Share Tweet via, and then press Copy Link to Tweet.
  4. Next, open the GIFwrapped app and paste the Tweet URL into the search bar. Tap Search.
  5. Now, simply save the GIF that appears to your Photos or your library. To do this, tap the icon that looks like an arrow going through a box, tap Share Photo, and then press Save Image.

Using Twitter on desktop

If you’re using a computer, the easiest way to save GIFs from Twitter is by utilizing websites specifically designed for these purposes, such as EZGif. Just follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Twitter, and locate the Tweet containing the GIF you want to download.
  2. Copy the Tweet URL by pressing the Share icon (arrow coming out of a box) located within the Tweet.
  3. Next, navigate to the EZGif website, and go to its GIF Optimizer.
  4. Here, paste the Tweet URL in the provided box, and then press Upload.
  5. You will now see your GIF at the top of the screen, where you will also have the option to tweak and edit it.
  6. After you’ve finished, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and then click Convert to GIF.
  7. Scroll down once more, where you will see another box with your GIF. If you’re satisfied, simply press Save (bottom-right corner) and the GIF will be downloaded to your chosen location.

Even though downloading GIFs from Twitter isn’t quite as straightforward as one might hope, it can still be done in a matter of seconds by using the helpful tools and methods described above.
