FAQs
What happens when I reverse a video on TikTok?
TikTok is one of the world’s most popular video creation and sharing social media apps. After having popped up a few years back, it’s since taken the world by storm and is responsible for some of the biggest social media crazes and fads of the last two years.
One of the fundamental ways of creating potentially viral videos on TikTok is to edit and manipulate your basic recorded content with any combination of the effects, filters, music, and text you can apply in the app.
One such effect – called ‘Reverse’ – gives you the ability to actually flip your video so that it plays in reverse. From end to beginning, instead of from beginning to end.
Why would I want to reverse a video on TikTok?
Aside from simply looking cool, there is any number of reasons you might want to reverse a video on TikTok. Reversing footage can allow you to see it in completely new, unique, and complex ways.
Say you have a video of someone doing a backflip into a swimming pool. Imagine you could then reverse that video. What would you see? It would suddenly appear as if the subject of the video was somehow flying out of the pool, spinning mid-air, and landing dry on the side of the pool.
You can use the reverse effect to create cool and unique videos which may, as a result of the effect, have a greater chance of going viral, and thus attracting new likes, comments, and followers to your page.
What other Time effects can you apply to a video on TikTok?
Under the ‘Time’ section of the effects bar, there are two other effects besides ‘Reverse’. These effects are ‘Slow-Mo’ and ‘Repeat’.
‘Slow-Mo’ slows your video (or a specific, designated part of your video) right down, so that it plays back at a mere fraction of the speed the video was taken at. ‘Repeat’ repeats a section (or the whole video) so that it replays itself automatically, like a Boomerang on Instagram.
Can I apply ‘Reverse’ to only one part of my video?
Of course! You can absolutely apply the ‘Reverse’ effect to just one single part of your video. To do so, simply apply the ‘Reverse’ effect as described in the tutorial above, and then use the timeline scrub-slider to highlight only the specific section of footage you wish to ‘Reverse’.
Simply drag the red-highlighted portion of the timeline in from left and right so that it covers only said specific area. Get creative, and see what crazy combinations of reversed and normal playback you can come up with!
