Google Chrome is among the most popular and widely-used internet browsers today, and for a good reason. Apart from frequent updates that improve the design and ease of use, Chrome also offers a wide variety of customization options entirely unique to this browser.
One of these great personalization features is the ability to add your own shortcuts to your Chrome homepage, allowing you to quickly access any frequently used website or even a specific webpage. But what happens when you want to remove the shortcuts you’ve created?
Whether you wish to delete just a couple of shortcuts, or even disable them altogether, here’s a quick guide that might help:
Removing one shortcut from the Google homepage

If you only wish to remove one or two (or even all) shortcuts from your Google Chrome homepage manually, you can do so by following the steps below:
- On your computer, open Google Chrome to land on your homepage. Alternatively, open a new tab (plus icon at the top) to access your homepage if you’re already using Chrome.
- Here, you will be able to see all of the shortcuts you’ve created, located under the search bar.
- Now, locate the shortcut you wish to remove, and hover your cursor over it.
- Press on the three vertical dots that appear in the corner.
- Finally, click on Remove to delete your shortcut.
- Repeat this same process for any other shortcut you wish to delete.
Note: In case you’ve made a mistake or simply changed your mind, you could also click on Undo in the pop-up that appears in the lower corner to undo the removal. This will automatically bring your deleted shortcut back.
Disabling all shortcuts on the Google homepage
If you want to prevent any shortcuts from appearing on your homepage, you also have the option of disabling them in your settings. Here’s how:
- On your computer, open Google Chrome to land on your homepage. Alternatively, open a new tab (plus icon at the top) to access your homepage if you’re already using Chrome.
- Here, press the Customize option (pen icon) in the bottom-right corner.
- In the window that appears, press the Shortcuts tab on the left.
- Now, simply toggle off the switch located in the Hide Shortcuts section.
Note: If you wish, you could also choose to show either the shortcuts you’ve created yourself or those relating to your most visited websites here, instead of removing them completely.
And that’s it! Whether you want to delete only a few shortcuts, or even prevent all of them from appearing on your Chrome homepage, you can do so quickly and easily by following the guide above.
