How to Post a Video from YouTube on Instagram

Considering the fact that YouTube is the most popular video sharing platform in the world, it’s only natural to share some of its wonderful content with your followers on Instagram as well. However, there’s still no direct and straightforward way to share YouTube videos to Instagram at this moment.

For that reason, you will need to get a bit creative, and utilize the help of third-party online tools and apps. Here’s how you can post a YouTube video on Instagram:

Step 1: Downloading the video from YouTube

The first thing you need to do is download the video from YouTube, in order to be able to post it on Instagram. Here’s how to do it, depending on the device you’re using:

Desktop

  1. Go to YouTube, and locate the video you want to post on Instagram.
  2. Copy the video’s URL.
  3. Visit an online YouTube Downloader, such as KeepVid or y2mate.
  4. Paste the video’s URL here, and click Download to save it on your device.

Note: It’s recommended to download the video as an MP4 format, as it’s the standard option for Instagram videos.

Mobile

You can download a YouTube video directly to your phone using the method described above, just by using your phone’s web browser.

However, you could also search the App Store or the Play Store for YouTube Downloaders by simply typing “YouTube video downloader” into the search bar. There are many apps available that will allow you to download YouTube videos, but VideoGet has been touted as the best one, although it’s only available on iOS.

All of these apps work in a similar manner, by pasting the video’s URL, and simply tapping the Download button.

Step 2: Optimizing the video for Instagram

Once the YouTube video has been downloaded and saved in your device, the next step is to optimize it, so it fits Instagram perfectly.

Whether you’re using your phone’s built-in video editor or more advanced software, such as Premiere Pro and Final Cut, the first step is to cut the video, as it will most likely be too long. Instagram videos can only be between 3 and 60 seconds long, although IGTV videos could be longer.

Before saving the video, make sure it has the most appropriate aspect ratio for Instagram, for the best possible results. An aspect ratio of 4:5 is ideal for an Instagram Feed, as well as the 1:1 (square) ratio. Instagram Stories and IGTV, on the other hand, should have an aspect ratio of 9:16.

If you wish, you could also edit the video further in your video editor by adding filters, covers etc, or you could also do this on Instagram when uploading.

Step 3: Uploading the video to Instagram

The final step is to upload your video to Instagram. To do this, open the Instagram app on your phone, and press the + icon if you want to add the video to your Feed, or swipe right and then swipe up to add the video to your Story. This way, you will be able to choose the downloaded YouTube video from your Camera Roll.

Once the video is chosen, simply press Next. Here, you will have the option to edit your video, including adding Instagram worthy filters.

Click Next, and then add a caption or necessary hashtags if you’re posting the video to your Feed. Finally, tap Share, and your video will be posted on Instagram.

Even though it might take a couple of additional steps, posting YouTube videos on Instagram is quite a quick and simple process. Just make sure you aren’t breaking any copyright rules while doing so!
