Being the latest edition of one of the most popular and classic games ever, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is accessible for play on Nintendo Switch as well, and some argue it’s better than ever. Offering a number of new options, including different karts and characters, this game also includes several choices for driving with your pals.

If this is your first attempt at starting a new online game with your pals, here’s a quick guide that might help:

Playing with friends online

The newest Mario Kart edition offers the ability to play online with as many as 12 friends, regardless of where they currently are on the planet. Here’s how:

  1. Open the game menu, and click on Online Play.
  2. Then, pick the number of people that will play on this specific Switch (1 or 2).
  3. In the following menu, press Friends. Now, click on Create Room, and then click OK. If your friends wish to join this room, all they need to do is click on your name and click OK.

Playing using Wireless Play

If you are currently in a shared space together with your buddies, you could also use Switch’s Wireless Play option to race with as many as 8 friends, instead of playing online. Here’s how it works:

  1. Open the menu, and click on Wireless Play.
  2. Then, pick the number of people that will play on this specific Switch (1 or 2).
  3. Now, click on Create Room, and then click OK.
  4. After this, all the friends that are in the vicinity of your Switch will be able to see the new room you’ve created when they click on Wireless Play. If your friends wish to join this room, all they need to do is click on the new room and then click OK.
  5. When all of your buddies have entered the room, you will then have the opportunity to select characters, personalize your vehicles, and vote for the maps you wish to race in this mode.
