Many social media platforms, such as Facebook, allow you to merge two or more pages into one, and even move followers from one page to another. But even though many Instagram users are constantly looking for ways to synchronize their accounts, this app still won’t allow you to merge any content, followers, accounts, or other data, as of yet.
However, there are some alternatives to merging, and a few additional steps you can take to efficiently move data from multiple accounts to a single one. Here’s how:

Creating a new synchronized Instagram account
Although Instagram doesn’t give you the option of automatically merging two or more different accounts, you can still synchronize them manually by following the steps below:
Step 1: Creating a new Instagram account
Currently, the only way to synchronize all of your posts on Instagram is to create a new account, and then manually repost the content from the other accounts. You can either do this by downloading content from your old accounts and then posting again on the new one, or by using a third-party repost app.
While this is a lengthy process that will lose the likes and comments you previously acquired, it’s the best way to ensure all the content from different accounts is now in one single place.
Note: You might want to set your other accounts to private while creating the new one, to avoid any new engagement you will later have to move.
Step 2: Moving your Instagram followers
The next step is to build an audience on your new Instagram account by moving your followers. Unfortunately, there is no way to efficiently move followers automatically, and it is yet another thing you will need to do manually.
The best way to achieve this is to post a Story or a photo to your timeline asking the current followers of your accounts to follow the new one. In addition, you could also change your Bios to redirect your followers to your new account. Don’t forget to tag your new account in these posts, to make it easier to follow.
Of course, this method won’t ensure that every single old follower will follow your new account, but it is a great place to start.
Step 3: Deleting old Instagram accounts
Once the new Instagram account is filled with content from all your old accounts, and the followers have successfully transferred, the last step would be to delete your old accounts.
While this might sound counterproductive to some, deleting the old accounts will prevent your followers from engaging with old posts, and force them to move to your new profile. Just don’t forget to post a deletion announcement before the final decision.
Adding different profiles to the same account
If you don’t want to go through the trouble of creating a new account and reposting old content, Instagram also has the option of connecting different profiles to the same account.
Of course, this isn’t the same as merging, as they will still be separate profiles that you have to switch between. However, the switch will be much quicker and easier, as you won’t need to log in/out every time.
Here’s how you can add multiple accounts to your existing Instagram profile:
- Open the Instagram app on your mobile device, and log into your account.
- Click on your profile picture in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Next, tap the hamburger menu in the upper-right corner, and press Settings.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the settings, and then press Add account.
- Now, you can either create a new account or log into an existing one. Either way, you will have the option of easily managing all your accounts from the same profile, after a successful log-in.
Contacting Instagram customer support
Another thing you can try is contacting the Instagram customer support team to ask them to merge two different accounts. It’s important to note that this method most likely won’t be successful, but it’s still worth trying, as some users have managed to have their accounts merged by Instagram in the past.
Although it isn’t possible to merge different accounts on Instagram in the original sense of the word, there are still ways you can create new, synchronized accounts as a solid alternative. Hopefully, Instagram will roll out a feature in the near future that will allow its users to effortlessly merge different accounts, and catch up with the rest of the social media platforms.
