Craft chests, hoppers, a furnace, droppers, redstone, observers and a Redstone comparator.
For the making of the redstone charcoal generator, you will need the following items:
- x2 double chests;
- x3 hoppers;
- x1 furnace;
- x1 observer;
- x2 droppers;
- x1 redstone comparator;
- x1 redstone.

Place the chests.
Place the first double chest 4 blocks above the ground. You can help yourself by building a scaffold from cobblestone or dirt to help you place the blocks easier. This chest will serve as an input for the generator.

Place 1 hopper under the chest.
Place 1 hopper under the double chest. It should be 3 blocks above the ground.

Place the furnace under the hopper.
Place the furnace under the hopper, which is connected to the double chest. The furnace should be 2 blocks above the ground.

Connect 1 hopper to the right of the furnace.
Place 1 hopper on the right side of the furnace so you can connect them.

Place a hopper under the furnace.
Place a hopper right under the furnace. Make sure there is space on the left and right sides of this hopper.

Place the other double chest left of the hopper.
Place the other double chest on the left side of the hopper. The goal is to connect the furnace to the second double chest because this chest will serve as an output of the generator.

Place 1 dropper on the right side of the hopper.
Place 1 dropper on the right side of the hopper. The dropper needs to be facing up.

Under the dropper, place another dropper.
Under the dropper above, place another dropper. It needs to be facing up again.

Place a hopper on the left side of the dropper.
Connect a dropper to the left side of the dropper.

Place 1 redstone on the right side of the dropper.
You need to place 1 Redstone on the right side of the dropper from step #9.

Place the observer above the redstone.
Place the observer above the redstone. The observer needs to be facing down, towards the Redstone from step #11.

Place the redstone comparator on top of the observer.

Begin the process of generating charcoal.
What is the idea of this generator? Whenever the fuel hopper becomes empty from non-empty (or the opposite), the observer block below sends a redstone pulse down which causes the two droppers to shoot the charcoal up.
