Frequently asked questions
Why would I want to link Instagram to TikTok?
Whilst Instagram pioneered the creation and sharing of short video clips and video stories, it was the much newer Chinese platform TikTok that really nailed the art form, and as such, it attracts 70 million daily users from around 1 billion total users.
TikTok allows its users to easily and efficiently create innovative videos and edit them with any number of impressive features – overall, it’s much more versatile than Instagram in this sense. And yet, many people don’t want to leave Instagram behind for TikTok, since the older of the two apps still has a lot going for it.
As such, many users of the two apps are looking for a way to link them, not only so that their followers on TikTok can quickly be redirected to their Instagram profile, but also because linking the two apps gives you a one-tap option for crossposting. Talk about boosting post visibility!
Whatever your reason, we’re here to help teach you exactly how to link your Instagram to your TikTok; just follow the simple step-by-step tutorial above to find out how.
How do I unlink Instagram from TikTok?
If you’ve changed your mind, or you’ve left Instagram behind for good and your profile is now redundant, there may come a time that you decide you need to unlink your Instagram profile from your TikTok one. If so, no worries. The process is even easier than linking the two in the first place.
Simply follow steps 1-4 in the tutorial above, except when it comes to the point where you’d have earlier tapped ‘Add Instagram’, simply tap ‘Unlink’ instead. TikTok will remove your Instagram credentials from your profile and it will look to you and your followers as if they were never even there in the first place.
Do I have to post my videos to TikTok before I can post them to Instagram?
Yes. In order to crosspost from TikTok to Instagram, you’ll have to also post the TikTok on the TikTok app. However, crossposting is super simple and can be done in just a few taps. To post a TikTok directly from the TikTok app to Instagram, simply open up TikTok and tap the (+) icon. Now, create or upload your video, and when done with the editing of it, tap ‘Next’.
On the next screen, you’re going to make sure you make the video public (or else it won’t be available for crossposting to Instagram). To do so, select ‘Public’ under the section entitled ‘Who can see this’. Finally, tap on the Instagram icon to select crossposting to Instagram, and then tap ‘Post’.
Once your TikTok has finished uploading to the original platform, you will be redirected to the Instagram app, and you will be presented with two options: Feed or Stories. Choose whichever one according to where you want your TikTok to be shared to (your grid post feed, or your Instagram story). You’ll now go through the normal Instagram production/editing options.
Add captions, GIFs, text, tags, whatever you like, and when happy, tap ‘Publish’. And there you have it!
