What other passwords can you store on Android?

When we talk about storing passwords on our Android devices, we’re actually talking about storing passwords on our Google account, which we then access through our Androids. The passwords themselves aren’t technically stored on your Android smartphone or tablet, only accessed through it.

Nevertheless, your Google account is capable of storing a whole range of passwords for any number of apps and/or websites. These passwords may belong, for example, to your eBay account, YouTube account, AirBnB or Asos account. Basically anything you use a password for may be stored in the Google Chrome app on your Android phone, provided you’ve chosen to save the password to your Google account when using it on a device previously.

If you haven’t saved the password to your email on Google, then you’ll not be able to find it on your Android, but will instead have to reset it by visiting your particular email website. To learn how to find your email password on your Android, see our step-by-step tutorials above.

Who else can see my email password on Android?

Androids are super secure, meaning that for anyone (including you) to gain access to the data bank of saved passwords you have stored in Google Chrome, you’ll still need to use the phone or tablet lock code to access them. If you use a number password, pattern password, fingerprint or Face ID recognition to enter your phone, then you’ll need to use this to access your saved passwords.

However, if you don’t have any additional security measures in place on your Android to unlock it, then anyone who knows how would technically be able to gain access to, and thus find your email password on Android. We highly recommend always having a passcode set up to unlock your phone with, for this and myriad other reasons.

Is it secure to store my passwords on my Android?

You’re technically not storing your passwords on Android, but on Google, which you access via your Android device. Nevertheless, you typically need to enter a passcode just to access the passwords in the first place, making it perfectly secure to store your passwords on Google and access them through Android.

If you’ve concerns as to the security this affords you, or as to other people accessing your stored passwords on Android, then we recommend not saving your passwords to Google in the first place, and instead keeping a physical list of them in a safe place, to which you can refer back to whenever you can’t remember a specific password.
