FAQs
Why would I want to download Instagram videos onto my phone?
Long gone are the days when Instagram was used only to post images and photos by users. Today, video is all the rage. From TikTok to Twitter, YouTube to Facebook and, of course, Instagram, thousands upon thousands of videos are uploaded by users around the world every single day.
These videos can range from the serious to the irreverent, the funny to the nonsensical, romantic, and emotional, as well as everything in between. On Instagram, you can come across long videos up to 15 minutes in length, which may for example be musical performances or educational pieces. You can also come across Vine and TikTok-esque clips no longer than a few seconds.
However, without following the tutorials laid out for you here, you can only watch these videos if you open the Instagram app and view them there. But what if you want to share them elsewhere, with someone who doesn’t have Instagram or on a different app? What if you wish to edit these videos somehow, or add to them? What if you simply wish to be able to watch them when not connected to the internet?
In all of these situations, the only answer is to download these Instagram videos from the app. We’re here to show you how to do just that.
Can I download Instagram videos directly from the Instagram app?
Unfortunately, there is no way to download Instagram videos via the Instagram app itself. And this makes sense, right? Instagram’s primary goal is to engage as many users as possible on the app, not off it. If you can watch the videos someone else posts to Instagram off the app, how is Meta (the company which owns Instagram) going to make money off you? Short answer is: they won’t.
Nevertheless, there are still ways to download Instagram videos on Android, even though Instagram doesn’t technically allow you to. There is a third-party app you can use, and a website, both of which allow you to download Instagram videos onto your Android device.
Can I download any Instagram videos I like?
No, unfortunately you cannot download just any Instagram video. You can only download videos from Instagram which have been uploaded to a Public account. Even if the video was uploaded by a Private account which follows you, and which you follow, the third-party app and website will not be granted access to the profile, and thus will be unable to download your video for you.
Thankfully, however, most of the content posted on Instagram is done so by Public users. Thus, just make sure that the video you want to download is located on a Public profile, and you’ll be fine!
Which is the best way to download Instagram videos on Android?
The answer to this depends entirely on you. Both methods take the same amount of time, both require connection to the internet, and both do the same job. We think the only real difference comes down to whether you want an app on your device which has permission to access your files and folders, or would rather constrict Instagram video downloads to an online website. Why not try both, and see which works best for you?
