Whether you’ve moved out of the industry, found a better website-designing host, or simply don’t need Wix anymore, we’ve got the process of deleting your Wix account covered.
However, before you start this article, you should know that it’s not a quick process. Wix makes it mandatory for you to delete or transfer all of your projects, services, and domains, as well as letting your existing subscriptions run their course before you can actually permanently delete your account. As such, you could start the process today and yet not be able to finalize account deletion until, say, your year-long subscription expires in early 2022.
To learn how to delete your Wix account, follow our step-by-step guides below. For any additional information or queries, see our FAQs at the end of this article.
How to begin the deletion process
To delete your Wix account, you first have to do 3 things: delete or transfer your Wix services, your sites, and then lastly your Wix domains. Let’s learn how.
Deleting Subscriptions and Services
- Open up your preferred web browser and navigate to the Wix website; sign in using your Wix credentials
- Click your Profile icon in the top right of the page
- From the drop-down menu, select ‘Premium Subscriptions’
- You’ll be directed to a list of all of your premium subscriptions, click the ‘Show More’ three dots icon next to the first subscription
- Lastly, click ‘Cancel Plan/Mailbox/Domain/App’ and follow any on-screen instruction to confirm the deletion
- Note: Deleting your subscription only ensures that it will not be automatically renewed once it comes to the end of its current billing period. You will however still have to allow this subscription to lapse (i.e. reach the end of said period) before you can delete your account.
Deleting Sites
- Open up your preferred web browser and navigate to the Wix website; sign in using your Wix credentials
- Click ‘My Sites’ in the top-left to take you to your My Sites dashboard
- Next, click ‘Site Actions’ on the first site, and from the pop-up menu, select ‘Move to Trash’
- To confirm deletion of the site, click ‘Move to Trash’ one more time
- Repeat until all of your sites have been deleted
Remove domains from your account
- Open up your preferred web browser and navigate to the Wix website; sign in using your Wix credentials
- Click your Profile icon in the top right of the page
- From the drop-down menu, select ‘Domains’
- Click the ‘Show More’ three dots icon next to the first domain
- From the pop-up menu, select ‘Remove from Wix’
- To confirm domain deletion, next click ‘Remove Domain’
- Finally, click ‘Close’
Transfer Wix services, sites and domains to another user
- Instead of deleting your Wix services, sites and domains, you can transfer them to another person, to do so, first open up your preferred web browser and navigate to the Wix website; sign in using your Wix credentials
- Click ‘My Sites’ in the top-left to take you to your My Sites dashboard
- Next, click ‘Site Actions’ on the first site, and from the pop-up menu, select ‘Transfer Site’
- Enter the email address of your intended recipient
- Now, fill out the ‘Transfer Ownership’ form which pops up once you’ve entered the email address
- Note: At this stage, you can select all of the additional services etc. which you wish to transfer to the new owner
- Once you’ve double-checked that you’ve filled out the form correctly, click ‘Next’
- Review your choices, and once happy, click ‘Transfer Ownership’
Delete your Wix account
Once you’ve deleted or transferred all necessary elements (as shown above), you can finally delete your Wix account.
- Open up your preferred web browser and navigate to the following page:
https://support.wix.com/en/article/closing-your-wix-account - Scroll down to Step Four, and open that up by hitting the ‘show more’ arrow.
- Follow the instructions and the blue hyperlink to take you to the final account deletion page.
- Once there, click ‘Close Wix Account Now’ and follow the on-screen instructions to finalise the deletion of your Wix account
And there you (finally) have it! Not a quick process, by any means, but thanks to our carefully researched and written guide, you can still easily delete that unwanted Wix account of yours, whilst deleting or transferring your sites, services, and domains as you go.
