How To Delete Your Tinder Account

Tinder is but one among myriad apps designed to revolutionize our modern dating lives. It’s been around for some time, and has during its lifetime attracted countless people, from young to old, who are either looking for a bit of fun, or a serious long-term relationship.

But maybe you no longer want your account. Perhaps Tinder has indeed worked its magic, and you’ve met the person (or people) of your dreams, and now you want to get rid of Tinder, as a show of your commitment to your new relationship. Or, perhaps your relationship with the dating app has simply run its course. You’ve tried it, and it’s not for you, or you enjoy using it but have decided it’s beginning to have too big a part in your life. Whatever your reason, you’re here because you want to delete your Tinder account.

No worries, to delete your Tinder account, just follow these few simple steps:

How to permanently delete your Tinder account

  1. Open up the Tinder app on your tablet or mobile device, or navigate to Tinder.com in your preferred desktop web browser. Log-in if prompted
  2. Tap or click your Profile picture (usually located in the top-left or top-right corner of the screen)
  3. Select ‘Settings’
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and locate the ‘Delete Account’ button. Tap or click this
  5. You will be prompted to confirm the deletion of your account by a pop-up window detailing what you will lose if you delete your account. Once you are sure you want to delete your Tinder account (remember, deletion is permanent!), confirm your decision
  6. Your Tinder account has now been deleted. All of your messages, and matches, and bio/profile information has been permanently deleted and cannot be retrieved. If you wish to reacquire Tinder in future, you will have to create an entirely new account (but can of course use the same Facebook profile in order to do so)

Note: If you were to delete your Tinder app, this would not automatically also delete your account. You should make sure that you delete your account via the app or website, before you dispense with your ability to access the service. If you bought a subscription through either Google Play or Apple, then be aware that neither deleting the Tinder app or your account cancels your subscription. You will have to do so separately. However, if you subscribed through the Tinder website using your card, then deleting your account will cancel your subscription.

How to temporarily disable your Tinder account (a less permanent alternative to deletion)

If you are not yet sure you want to take the plunge and permanently delete your Tinder account, then first I suggest hiding your profile instead.

  1. Open up the Tinder app on your tablet or mobile device, or navigate to Tinder.com in your preferred desktop web browser. Log-in if prompted
  2. Tap or click your Profile picture (usually located in the top-left or top-right corner of the screen)
  3. Select ‘Settings’
  4. Scroll to ‘Discovery’ and toggle it to ‘Off’
  5. This will essentially hide your profile, making it invisible to other users, excepting of course those who you have already matched with. You can still contact your Tinder matches, but your profile will not show up in the feeds of any other users. This is a good way of reducing your contact time with Tinder, and acts as a comfortable intermediary step before you decide to fully and permanently delete your account.

Note: Anyone you have ‘liked’ before turning your profile’s Discovery to ‘off’ may still like you back, and thus ‘match’ with you.

And there you have it! In a few simple steps you can permanently delete your unwanted Tinder account, or, if you want to take a smaller step first, choose just to make it invisible to non-matched users of the app.
