How To Delete Your Runescape Account

by LauraMay 20, 2021May 28, 2021Applications

Whether you no longer play, or play but want a fresh start with a new account, we must unfortunately inform you that the makers of Runescape make it impossible to actually delete a Runescape account.

Nonetheless, there are a couple other options. You could simply create a new account, even using the same email address (see the FAQs below), or you can contact Jagex (Runescape) and request they disable your Runescape account (the next best thing to deletion).

To learn how to disable your Runescape account, instead of deleting it, simply follow our easy step-by-step guide below. For any additional information or queries, please see our FAQs at the end of this article.

Note: Permanently disabling your Runescape account is a permanent process, and will render you unable to access said account ever again. As such, we highly recommend you are completely sure in your decision, before you proceed.

Frequently asked questions

Why would I want to delete my Runescape account?

Runescape is an old, and much beloved open world RPG game in which players build characters, chat amongst themselves, and develop any number of skill trees through performing tasks such as mining, smithing, hunting, and fighting, as well as completing missions.

There are any number of reasons you might want to delete your Runescape account. Perhaps you’re spending far too much time in the game, and deleting your account is a last-ditch attempt at curbing the habit. Maybe you feel you’ve taken a wrong turn in the game, and wish to start afresh with a deletion.

Whatever your reasons for wanting to delete your Runescape account, unfortunately there is no permanent, full-proof means of account deletion. It’s just the way Jagex works!

Why can’t I delete my Runescape account?

Jagex, the company which runs Runescape, doesn’t allow you to permanently delete your account. We’re not sure exactly why, but with so many people playing Runescape, and doubtlessly innumerable cases of mistakenly deleted accounts in the past, it makes sense to us that Jagex would now limit your ability in this regard.

What’s the best alternative to deleting my Runescape account?

There are a few alternatives to deleting your Runescape account.

The easiest and quickest is simply to create a new account, and forget about the old one. If you’re looking to start afresh, and simply wanted to delete your old account in the process, then consider just forgetting about it – since you can’t actually delete it, is there any benefit to disabling or blocking it?

You can even create a new account with the same email address! (Provided you use a Gmail email address, you can just create a new account and put a full-stop anywhere in the address and Runescape will count it as a new email, though it will be still linked to the same Gmail address.)

Alternatively, you can permanently disable your account by contacting Jagex directly. This is the alternative we’ll guide you through above, but do bear in mind that the process is irreversible, and once you’ve permanently disabled your Runescape account, you will never be able to access it again.

Given the permanence of this decision, we highly recommend you consider simply creating a new account and forgetting about the old one (on the off chance future-you decides they want to regain access to it) instead.

What happens when I disable my Runescape account?

Your access to said account is permanently, irrevocably disabled, meaning that you’ll never again have access to your character or any of its items, achievements, or progression.

Can I recover an accidentally disabled Runescape account?

If you’ve gone down the route of permanently disabling your Runescape account, then we’re afraid the short answer is no. However, since this process is a little lengthy, and you actually have to write to Jagex specifically requesting they carry out the disabling of your account for you, you’ve got plenty enough time to make doubly sure you’re certain you want to delete/disable your account.
