Discord is one of the most popular and widely-used platforms for communication nowadays, especially when it comes to strategizing with teammates during a game or simply chatting with like-minded people in different communities. One of the many things that make Discord so unique is the ability to customize and format text in a number of different ways, allowing for more personalized and interesting content.
Among those handy features are also spoiler tags, which are specifically made for hiding information other users aren’t quite prepared to read yet. If you want to add these useful tags to your text as well, here is how you could create and insert spoiler tags on Discord:

There are two different ways you could insert spoiler tags into your text when using Discord. Here are some explanations for both:
Method 1: Marking as a spoiler
- Enter your text, but don’t send it yet.
- Using your cursor, highlight the portion of the text which you would like to tag as a spoiler.
- Then, right-click on the text portion you’ve just highlighted.
- Here, select ‘Mark as Spoiler’.
- Two vertical lines will now show up on either side of the text you’ve selected, which means you have successfully inserted a spoiler.
- Finally, send your message. Other users now won’t be able to read the marked text, unless they choose to uncover it.
Method 2: Using the Markdown option
- Enter your text, but don’t send it yet.
- Surround the portion of the text which you would like to tag as a spoiler using two vertical lines (||) on both sides. These lines can be typed in with the Shift + Backslash shortcut on the keyboard.
Example: ||enter phrase here||
Note: Keep in mind that you could also mark any attachments you upload as spoilers as well, as Discord will provide you with the ‘Mark as Spoiler’ choice whenever you attempt to upload any attachments. However, this is only possible to achieve using a computer, as of yet.
Creating spoilers on a mobile device
In case you want to insert spoilers into your text when using Discord for mobile, you could effortlessly manage to do this as well. Simply surround your text with two vertical lines, as described in the second method above. These bars should be available in the symbol section on all smartphone keyboards.
And there you have it; inserting spoiler tags into your text on Discord is as quick and easy as completing a couple of simple steps.
