How to Create a Poll on Facebook

Whether you want to improve the engagement on one of your Facebook Pages or you just want to find out what your friends and family think, creating a Poll is a simple yet successful way of communicating with your audience. After all, people love to share their opinions and preferences with the world.

However, Facebook has recently removed the option that allowed you to create a Poll on your personal Facebook page, making it quite difficult to gather casual thoughts and opinions on a topic. Of course, that doesn’t mean that you can’t engage with your audience through Polls anymore.

Here are some ways you can still create a Poll on Facebook:

Creating a Poll on a Page

If you are an admin or an editor of a Facebook Page, you can create a Poll there by following the steps below:

  1. Open Facebook, and log into your account.
  2. From the homepage, click on Pages in the left-hand menu, and then select your Page.
  3. At the top of the page, click on Write a post.
  4. Next, click the More icon (three vertical dots) and choose Poll.
  5. In the Write Something box, type in a question you would like to ask.
  6. Enter the options for your Poll in the Option boxes, or click on + Add Option to add more.
  7. Once finished, press Share Now to share your Poll with the Page followers.

Creating a Poll in a Facebook Group

Whether you’re an admin or just a regular member of a Facebook Group, you can create a Poll in this way as well. Just follow these steps:

  1. Open Facebook, and log into your account.
  2. From the homepage, click on Groups in the left-hand menu, and then select the Group you would like to share a Poll with.


  3. At the top of the page, click on the What’s on your mind box.
  4. Next, click the More icon (three vertical dots) and choose Poll.


  5. In the Write Something box, type in a question you would like to ask.
  6. Enter the options for your Poll in the Option boxes, or click on + Add Option to add more.
  7. Then, press Poll Options to choose whether you want to Allow anyone to add options or Allow people to choose multiple answers.


  8. Once finished, press Post to share your Poll with the Facebook Group.

Note: It’s important to remember that only members of the Group in question can vote on any Poll created within the Group.

Creating a Poll on a Story

While you can’t share a Poll on your personal Facebook Page, you can still create a Poll on your Story if you want to gather your friends’ opinions. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Facebook app on your mobile phone or tablet, and log into your account.
  2. Press + Add to Story at the top of your News Feed.
  3. Now, take or upload any photo or video of your choice.
  4. To add a poll to your Story, press the smiley face sticker in the top right, and then press Poll.


  5. Type in the question you would like to ask, and then press Yes and No to customize the Poll answers.
  6. When finished, press Done.
  7. Now, simply tap Share to Story to share the Story Poll with your friends.

Creating a Poll in Facebook Messenger

If you are a part of a group conversation on Facebook Messenger, you also have the option of creating a poll there, for your friends, family or other connections. Here’s how:

  1. Log into Facebook Messenger and open the group chat where you would like to create a Poll.


  2. Click on the Create a Poll icon. Depending on the device you’re using, press the + icon or the four dots icon and then click on Polls.


  3. In the Ask Something box, type in a question you would like to ask the group.
  4. To add different Poll answers and options, select + Add Option.
  5. Once finished, press Create Poll to share your Poll with the group chat.

Polls can be incredibly beneficial for business owners aiming to improve engagement, or just plain entertaining for the average audience. Either way, it’s a different and interesting way of communicating with your Facebook friends and followers.
