How To Clear The Queue On Spotify

We’ve all done it – went to save an album or playlist to our library, download it, or share it, and accidentally tapped the ‘Add to Queue’ option instead, suddenly meaning that whatever we were listening to is soon to be interrupted by a whole long list of music we never intended to listen to. Maybe you’ve simply added the same song(s) to your queue more than once, have changed your mind about what you’ve added, or have a queue from yesterday still lined up for today’s listening.

Whatever your reasoning, it’s helpful to know how to clear a Spotify queue (or indeed to remove individual/multiple songs from it at a time). To do so, just follow the tutorials below, and for more information, see the FAQs at the end of this article.

Frequently asked questions

What is Spotify?

Spotify is the world’s largest and most popular streaming service for music, though it also caters to podcast listeners, too. Available as an app for the PC, Apple, and Android mobile phones and tablets, it attracts millions and millions of unique users every day, from all around the world.

What is the Spotify queue?

When you’re listening to your music in the Spotify app, you can literally ‘queue’ up one or more songs, regardless of whether you’re in the middle of listening to an individual song, album, or playlist. These queued songs will be the next songs played after the one you’re listening to, and Spotify will continue to play through the queue in the chronological order they were added, until there are no more songs queued, at which point it will return to playing from whatever album or playlist you were listening to before. (Note: you can alter the running order of your queue by clicking or tapping on the song and dragging and dropping it to your desired position in the queue)

Can I recover an accidentally deleted queue?

No, unfortunately not. Once you’ve removed a song from your queue, or cleared it altogether, the only way to get it back is to start queueing those songs all over again.

If I close the Spotify app is my queue automatically cleared?

No. If you close the app, typically Spotify will remember what you have in your queue, meaning that next time you open it up and begin playing something, Spotify will begin playing from your queue once that first song is over.
