Frequently asked questions
Why would I want to change my Spotify payment method?
There are lots of reasons you might want to change or update your Spotify payment method; the most common reason of course being that you’ve got a new card, or have switched banks, and you need to update your Spotify payment credentials to continue enjoying Spotify Premium without any hitches.
There are plenty of other reasons, too, though. For example, some phone service providers actually offer the ability to pay for a Spotify plan in your actual monthly phone bill – some people just find this more convenient and so want to switch to this!
Alternatively, you may well have received a Spotify gift card or another such prepaid card for a birthday or holiday, and you want to put it to good use. Doing so works the same as updating your payment method.
Do I have to input a payment method to use Spotify?
No, you absolutely don’t. Spotify Free is open to all who have an internet connection and either a smartphone, tablet, or laptop. With Spotify Free, you can create an account and listen to music without ever having to enter a payment method.
There are however some drawbacks to Spotify Free, which we’ll discuss in the next FAQ.
What are the benefits of paying for Spotify?
Paying for Spotify gets you one of a number of Spotify Premium plans (which all have more or less the same benefits). Essentially, paying for Spotify gets you unlimited access to all of the music that there is on Spotify, removes all adverts from your listening experience, and allows you to listen to music, however, wherever, and whenever you want (even offline, with the capacity to download music onto your phone).
Spotify Free, on the other hand, only allows you to listen to music (albums, songs, playlists, podcasts) in Shuffle mode, and only when you’re online. Moreover, you have to listen to ads, which are frequent, can pop up at any time, and as such, can be pretty annoying.
What kind of payment methods can I use to pay for Spotify?
There are a good few ways to pay for Spotify/a good few payment methods you can choose from. Here’s the list:
- Credit or Debit card
- Prepaid card
- PayPal
- Gift card
- Pay by mobile (as part of your service provider’s monthly bill)
