A background is what appears as the base of your document, behind any text or pictures that might be included. Even though the background is traditionally white on PDFs, particularly when it comes to text documents, sometimes you might want to inject some color into your file, especially when making presentations, promotional material, or other documents that need to be more aesthetically appealing. In those cases, here is how you could change the background color of your PDF documents:
Adding a different background
To change the color of your PDF background, simply follow the steps below:
- If you haven’t already, open your PDF file in Acrobat Reader.
- In the menu at the top, click on Tools, and then select the Edit PDF option. A new toolbar will now appear, offering related settings and options.
Note: If an error message shows up notifying you that your file already has a background, simply press Replace Background.
3. In the new toolbar, click on More. Here, select the Background option, and then press Add.
4. If you wish to add a background only to specific pages, press on Page Range Options, and then choose specific pages. If you want to add a background to the entire document, simply skip this step.
5. Now, you can change the color of your PDF background by click on the From Color option, and then using the color picker to select your desired shade
Note: You can also use a picture as your background – simply click on File, and then choose your preferred photo.
6. If necessary, make changes to the positioning or the appearance of your background, and finally click on OK to save your changes.
Removing a background
In case you’ve made a mistake when including a different background into your document, you can remove it by following these steps:
- In the menu at the top, click on Tools, and then select the Edit PDF option. A new toolbar will now appear, offering related settings and options.
- In the new toolbar, click on More. Here, select the Background option, and then press Remove.
- Finally, click on Yes to save your changes.
Note: The steps described in this article relate specifically to Adobe Acrobat Reader. However, the process should be quite similar when using other software meant for reading and editing PDF files.
And that’s it; all the necessary steps you need to follow in order to change the background of your PDF file to a different color or even image.
