How to Change the Background Color in an Instagram Story

Nowadays, it’s nearly impossible to imagine Instagram without the endless tweaks, perks and customization options it offers, including Instagram Stories and the ability to personalize them however we wish. Being one of the best ways to temporarily share interesting content with our followers, it’s no wonder Stories have become such an important aspect of the app.

But did you know you could customize your Instagram Stories even further, making them more appealing and unique, including changing the color of the background? If you want to make your Stories that much more captivating, here are three different ways you can change the background color of your Stories:

Changing the background color in Create mode

If you plan on posting a simple text-based Story, you can effortlessly change the background color in the Instagram app. Here’s how:

Step 1: Enter Create mode

Go to your Stories by swiping right, and then tap the Create mode button (“Aa” icon). From here, you can create a text Story by simply tapping to write, or even opt for a GIF, Poll, or any other plain Story option, by choosing one of the icons at the bottom of the screen.

Step 2: Change the background color

Once your text has been entered, you can easily change the background color by tapping the colorful circle icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Here, you have eight different color choices. You can switch between them by pressing the same circle icon.

Step 3: Publish the Story

Once everything is completed, the last step is to simply tap the Your Story button, and the Story will be published.

Changing the background color using the Drawing tool

You also have the option of using the Drawing tool in order to change the background color of your Stories. Here’s how to do it:

Step 1: Create a Story

Go to your Stories by swiping right, and then create a Story as you normally would. You can take a picture, upload one from your Gallery, share an IG post, or even another Story.

Step 2: Open the Drawing options

After you’ve made your selection, the next step is to tap on the Drawing tool (squiggly line icon) in the upper-right corner of the screen. Here, you can choose different brush types with which to color in the background. The best advice would be to opt for the first brush option, and maximize the size of the brush on the left-hand side of the screen, for ease of use.

Step 3: Change the background color

Now, choose a new background color from the list of colors at the bottom of the screen. You can also use the Color Picker tool in the bottom-left corner to choose a specific color from the image. Then, simply color in the background of your Story with the new chosen shade.

Step 4: Publish the Story

Once everything is completed, the last step is to simply tap the Your Story button, and the Story will be published.

Changing the background to a pattern or an image

If you have any other images in your Camera Roll that you would like to use as the background of your Story, you can do so by following the steps below:

Step 1: Create a Story

Go to your Stories by swiping right. However, instead of taking a new photo, swipe up to open your Camera Roll. Here, you can choose an image that you would like to use as your Story background.

Step 2: Add content to your Story

Next, simply add some content to the Story. You can either tap to add text, or swipe up to choose stickers, GIFs, Polls, Questions, etc.

Step 3: Publish the Story

Once everything is completed, the last step is to simply tap the Your Story button, and the Story will be published.

And that’s all! Regardless of the type of Instagram Story you want to share, you can easily change the color of the background by following one of the three methods described above.
