How to Appear Offline on Steam

Ever since it first launched, Steam has been one of the best and most important platforms for PC gamers, allowing them to install and update games, sometimes at incredible sales, as well as offering a great way to stay organized. What’s more, Steam also has a social networking aspect in the form of live video streaming and community features like an efficient chat system.

But what happens when you don’t want other people to see you are currently online on Steam? Thankfully, the platform displays five different status options, two of which are Invisible and Offline. The two options are quite similar; both of them make you appear offline to other users, although you can only use the chat and see who else is online when you are in the Invisible mode.

Whichever option you choose, here is how you can appear offline to other Steam users:

Step 1: Accessing your chat

Firstly, open Steam, and then select the Friends & Chat button in the lower-right corner. This will open a new window, where you can see the list of your friends, as well as several options pertaining to your profile.

Step 2: Changing the settings

Once the window has been opened, locate your profile name (left-hand side of the screen), and then click the arrow right next to it. There, you will have the option to change your online status.

Finally, simply click on Offline or Invisible to change your status on Steam, and appear offline to other users.

Remember, the Invisible mode will still allow you to communicate through the chat, while the Offline mode won’t.

As you can see, changing your online status on Steam in order to appear offline to other users is as quick and easy as completing two simple steps.
