How to Add Roles in Discord

Discord has become one of the most popular voice communication platforms nowadays, particularly when it comes to avid gamers, and it comes as no surprise, considering Discord’s reliability and ease of use. The platform even offers its users the opportunity to set up their own servers, where they have a number of options for customization and permissions, allowing them to set their own rules.

However, if you’re new to Discord servers, it can be quite challenging to create and assign adequate roles, especially when you look at the wide array of permission levels available. To help you out with this difficult task, here is everything you need to know about roles in Discord:

What are roles in Discord?

Discord’s permission system is built around different roles, which you could assign to the members of your server. You could either hand these roles out to particular channels that are on your server, or to the entire server itself.

There are nearly 30 different types of roles available on Discord, divided between voice, text, and general options, allowing members to do anything from attaching files and managing nicknames and emojis, to even kicking out or banning other members.
